Maim against healing effects
This rule is part of the Comprehensive Rules, where every cross-reference resolves in one page.
- Question
- Which forms of healing does Maim reduce?
- Answer
- All of them, plus Shield gain. It does not reduce damage.
- 900.14aMaim sits in the shared recovery ledger, so every path that restores Vitality or grants Shield runs through it: direct heals, ally heals, Feast, each Roost tick, each Hallow tick, and Shield from any source.
- 900.14bMaim is applied to the eligible amount, after the target's own capacity cap. Healing a unit already at full Vitality restores nothing and consumes no Maim.
- 900.14cEach point prevents 2 and is then consumed, so Maim is a finite resource that healing burns through. Consumption is ceil(prevented / 2), so a 1-point overflow still spends a whole point.
- 900.14dThis is why chip healing is a legitimate answer to Maim: many small heals strip the pool as effectively as one large one, and each tick that gets through is a tick the Cull threshold no longer covers.
- 900.14eFeast is the exception worth noting: because it is capped by missing Vitality first, a healthy Feast unit spends no Maim and gains nothing.
