Overtime and the 120-second cap

This rule is part of the Comprehensive Rules, where every cross-reference resolves in one page.

Question
What ends a stalled combat?
Answer
Escalating overtime damage from 60 seconds, and a hard cap at 120.
  1. 900.42aFrom 60 seconds onward every combatant takes overtime damage once per second. Tools and Hubs are the only units excluded.
  2. 900.42bThe amount grows with the square of the seconds past the threshold: N seconds past 60 deals N x N.
  3. 900.42cAt 70 seconds that is 100 per second. At 80 seconds it is 400. Nothing survives long past the threshold.
  4. 900.42dThe combat is hard-capped at 120 seconds regardless.
  5. 900.42eOvertime damage is not amplified by Prismbreak and is not a status. It is plain damage through the normal pipeline, so Armor reduces it and Insurance charges and Shield absorb individual ticks, spending those points with their full consequences. Nothing retaliates against it: the match clock is not an attacker, so Thorns, Riposte, and Subrogated Insurance all stay silent.
