In game
Direct hits fill the boss's Stagger meter. When full, Stun this boss for 2s.
Encounter
- 800.66aStagger is a boss-only meter, and it counts hits rather than damage. Every qualifying hit advances it by exactly 1, whether it took 3 Vitality or 300.
- 800.66bThe meter's size is authored per boss, so each encounter takes a different number of hits to Stagger. The codex prints it on the boss.
- 800.66cA hit qualifies when it comes from one of your units and actually removes something — Vitality or Shield. A hit Armor reduces to nothing, or one an Insurance point absorbs outright, advances nothing.
- 800.66dDamage over time does not fill the meter — only direct hits do. Neither does retaliation, which is a Vitality cost rather than a damage instance.
- 800.66eA killing blow does not advance the meter. The boss is already dead by the time the hit is scored.
- 800.66fWhen the meter fills it empties to zero and the boss is Stunned for 2 seconds. The Stun is applied over the boss's immunity to negative statuses, which is the only thing that lets it land at all.
- 800.66gPhasebreak preserves Stagger progress across a phase change.
